The emotional basis of the lyricism that underlies Anindita Saha’s work is best defined in her own words. “My paintings are an intimate dialogue between the self and nature – a process of exploring the self to universalize my personal feelings. This self is predominantly concerned with the emotional aspect of its environment, and is entirely immersed in the sense and spirit of nature.
“Along with seasonal changes in nature, certain definite changes also pulse through human nature, mood and emotion. I have tried to visualize these in my paintings. My land is often vast and barren, my sky small and dark; dunes are like heaps of unspoken words; streams like tears of sheer joy or profound sadness flow beneath my heart. On this apparently simple natural canvas, the ‘life-boat’ floats, clouds drop their showers, roads meet nowhere in the present, but pursue a passage through time.
“Interactive forms communicate and mesh in my paintings; and the vibrancy of colors, passionate red, mysterious black, blue and earthy yellow, give form to my emotion – but running through it all, is an overwhelming, all-encompassing silence …”
