| Munindra Rajbongshi |
Munindra Rajbongshi excels in his delineation of visually arresting, dramatically stylized heads and faces. Elongated head and neck, heavy lidded half closed eyes and sculpted features frozen into inscrutability evoke the figures of African art. The minimally depicted backdrops that frame the figures, while anchoring them in a certain pictorial reality, can never quite draw them into a life context. They remain eternal enigmas, fossilized in their timeless existence.
The cool mystic hues of subtly shaded blues and greens in which Munidra’s faces are depicted are dramatized with vivid colour accents – usually the flush and vitality of arresting pinks, purples and oranges, which rather than muting their abstraction, dramatize their emotional distance from the charge and energy of day-to-day life forces.
